Friendliness

There was once a monk who was so friendly he could communicate with all things, ... human being, spirits and even non-beings. Many times he would walk the forest and nodded to trees, winked at the birds and smiled at the most ferocious of animals.

Pebbles and blades of grass were equally beautiful and awesome to him. Sometimes he would whisper gently to the winds and pleaded with the storms to hold back a little for the safety of the villagers.

Some thought he was a loonie, others a sage, a most spiritual being. He didn't mind what others thought ... he wasn't there to impress anyone least of all himself. He was free of other people's ideas and misconceptions.

Each time he came across any demons, he would feel compassion for them and said that if he could do anything at all for them he would. Even if they take his life or possess him he did not mind. Providing of course that they change for the better. He even said to the devil once if he could relieve his pain and bitterness he would. The devil sobbed and backed off for this true compassion would melt him to nothingness.

Such friendliness ... such compassion. It was unheard of. To every being he came accross, he blessed and offered his kindness in whatsoever way he could. For he knows that it is better to die a slow death for the sake of all living beingd rather than to commit suicide which he once comtemplated. That itself is an illusion for in understanding death one understands that it is only the transition of forms.

From form to formless and from formless back to a new form again. No fear only harmony, friendliness and compassion.

He has forsaken his mind and instead cultivated the openness of his heart. He knows that the mind is only a hindrance and the heart a door to everlasting bliss and friendliness.

Every being is friends with this monk. Even the sands and twigs along the path would offer him assistance if he needed them. And when he laughs he laughs so wholeheartedly it resonates so  deeply driving all fears away.

Who is this person, who dares to befriend the lowliest of creatures and whom the highest beings admire? He knows that in life all is equal. His presence radiates calmness and healing. His shadow soothes and bring reassurance to all.

Kings and powerful men from all over the world came to offer him gifts and to learn his secret. His secret? No secret at all he says. It is all too simple. Make friends with death itself and see what happens. Make friends with the things that frighten you most ... try ... try a little at a time. Until you realise that this whole world and universe is a friendly place. This life and existence is a friendly whole who looks after its parts.

The hands do not say to the feet "I am more important than you ..." nor does the heart to the mind "i have no need of you now..." All is needed in appropriate times and situations. Even though the mind doubts and the heart soars courageously ... still the mind can be used as a tool only when it is needed.

In the journey inward, mind can be put aside and the heart can explore and sense the friendliness of the whole. Sense the friendliness of the higher self  and of the One in which all things express themselves. Even in utter darkness, especially in the blackest darkness, in the valley of the shadow of death this friendliness knows no evil. Darkness and light have become one for such.

For such beings, light emanates from within as one journeys deeper and deeper to the centre of his heart and being.

Be friendly to yourself first. Start  with yourself. To be friendly with yourself means to take good care of yourself. Dealing with every difficulty, fear or issue that have arisen in the past. Witnessing them and detaching from the outcome. Watching with mindfulness and kindness and letting all the worries go.

If you are friendly, you are fearlessly innocent. "For such belongs the kingdom of heaven" Jesus said about kids as kids are innocently fearless. Just before Buddha attain his enlightenment, he remembered the times when he was just a kid. Open, present, alert and friendly with all.

Friendliness expels all fears. Perfect love casts out all fears. There is transparency and openness in friendliness. Showing care to oneself and not condemning oneself is a friendly non-judgemental action. Do likewise to others. No labelling, no-judging and no distorted perception about others due to the past. There is only ever the present to deal with. And the present is ever new, ever changing, ever evolving.

Knowing the truth about non-duality. Knowing that others are merely expressions of yourself. We are all mirrors of each other in one way or another. Life reflects itself in many forms and yet it is one big whole existing in harmony. One hurts and the next suffers. One rejoices and the next revels in it.

We can never truly be happy or content unless we choose happiness and contentment. Really it is quite simple ... it is only a choice away and stilling the mind or slowing our mind chatters down to silence and equanimity. Using mindfulness and awareness to expand from within.

Enjoy yourself and delight in the sharing and giving of yourself to others. Then the true magic begins as collectively a new earth is evolves.
